This course will teach you how to turn data into algorithms and apply them to a generative shoe model. As the data changes, the shoe changes according to the parameters that you set. The data can be anything, from data about sizes coming from footscans to data about aesthetic preferences coming from social media. You decide what information you want to use to influence your shoes.
This course is a fantastic opportunity for people that already know Rhino and Grasshopper and want to bring their skills to the next level by adding Python scripting, so they can generate custom footwear in a matter of seconds. It is taught by the two most senior 3D people that we have at The Footwearists: Troy Nachtigall and Lorenzo Masini.
Troy recently finished his PhD in materializing data for ultra personalized products, developing a streamlined workflow system that translates data into custom footwear and then monitors how those shoes are used, so every next iteration of the shoes will be even better suited to the wearer. For this course he will give students insight into this system and how they could translate it to their situation.
The first two days you will learn how to create algorithms with Python scripting and apply those to an existing shoe model in Grasshopper. The next two days you will learn how to create your own interactive shoe model in Grasshopper.
Level: advanced, participants should already have experience in Rhino and Grasshopper. Experience in Python scripting can be an advantage, but it is not necessary. You are required to bring your own laptop with Rhino/Grasshopper and Python Scripting installed.
